We are recruiting Director of Culture,

Who will help us to deliver our cultural ambition and can demonstrate the skills needed to deliver great work.

ABOUT THE Black-E ARTS CENTRE: The Black-E has spent over 50 years driving the debate around participation and what is community centred arts practice. Through our cultural programme, archive, and collaborative projects we are delivering a creative ambition that not only improves the quality of our own work, but also enables other cultural producers to listen to the views of artists and people who have been marginalised, historically excluded by because of social class, gender, race, and disability.

We are currently working towards securing a vibrant, sustainable future for this key cultural anchor that sits in the heart of Liverpool but speaks to the global community.

Job description

  • Reporting to the Chair and Charity Trustees.
  • Develop the Arts and Cultural Programme.
  • Write a Three-Year Cultural Plan for The Black-E adhering to the Arts Council’s National Portfolio principles.
  • Delivery of The Black-E’s cultural ambition.
  • Attract cultural opportunities to The Black-E.
  • To liaise with performing companies and artists about their performance requirements and schedules e.g., start times and interval times.
  • Oversee the smooth running of cultural events and performances, ensuring they are safe, run to schedule and are an enjoyable experience for visitors. The Director of Operations provides a pivotal role in managing the Black-E and ensuring productions and events are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a new box office and hires software application that will enable the ticketing transactions, better customer service enquiries and costings for building hires.
  • Volunteer Management and Customer Service
  • Contribute with all of the Black-E staff towards a Volunteer Management Strategy.
  • Work with senior colleagues and Trustees to develop and implement a plan for the recruitment and retention of up to 20 volunteers.
  • Develop and lead periodic volunteer events, including Recruitment Drives, Inductions, Training Days, Social events and
  • Contribute to delivery of our evaluation work and support collection of evidence of impact.
  • To advise on external signage and ensure visitors have accurate internal information & directions using signage that provides effective assistance.
  • Coordinate activity to ensure disabled users of the building, including staff, have their access needs met always enjoy good access.

We are after Children and Young People (CYP) Manager

Provide oversight on the development, delivery and promotion of the free arts-based activity on Saturdays at the Black-E Arts Centre, for families and CYP, in addition to the current artist led ArtScheme.

Job description

  • To support the Programmes identified which will be an integral part of the artist led holiday Art schemes.
  • Help promote and manage volunteering, including devising a volunteering strategy and hosting volunteer fairs, inductions, social events, and twice-yearly volunteer award/reward events.
  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to support fair and efficient rostering of sessional Artscheme artists and supplementary staff i.e., Cook. Manage and roster all volunteers, including reception and Artscheme.
  • Manage DBS and Safeguarding, providing Trustees with regular progress report. Together with keeping data of CYP secure.
  • Attend fortnightly staff meetings and take responsibility for helping to update the work log spreadsheet.
  • Contributing to the Trustees weekly update, together with making sure that the website is updated weekly to include work with CYP.
  • Support evaluation of funded work with CYP under the age of 16 using appropriate methods.
